Babylon is the most densely developed town in Suffolk, occupying the South Shore barrier and mainland west of Islip. Tax map numbers begin with district 0100. Because so much of the town sits at low elevation behind the barrier island, FEMA flood zones are the single most consequential overlay here — and they are mapped from the Town of Babylon’s own GIS.
How to read a Babylon tax map number
Suffolk County identifies every parcel by a 19-digit Suffolk County Tax Map number (SCTM). It is written in four parts, and each part narrows the location:
- District
- 0100 — the town. Every parcel in Babylon begins with these four digits.
- Section
- A numbered map sheet within the town.
- Block
- A group of parcels on that sheet, usually bounded by streets.
- Lot
- The individual parcel. Sub-lots appear after the decimal when land is split.
A Babylon tax map number therefore looks like 0100-123.00-01.00-005.000. Unlike a street address it does not change when the property is sold, which is why deeds, tax bills and assessment records all key on it.
Zoning in Babylon
Zoning in New York is adopted town by town, and there is no county-wide zoning map. Babylon does not currently publish a zoning layer we can map, so it is not shown here. The county-wide layers below — school and fire districts, wetlands, flood zones and the Central Pine Barrens — do cover Babylon, and we add town zoning as each town publishes it.

Babylon tax map — common questions
- How do I find a property's tax map number in Babylon?
- Search the address or click any parcel on the map above. Every Babylon tax map number starts with district 0100, followed by section, block and lot — for example 0100-123.00-01.00-005.000. The number stays the same when a property changes hands.
- How many parcels are in Babylon?
- 52,421 parcels, based on the Suffolk County tax parcel layer. Each one is drawn to its recorded boundary on the map above and is clickable for its tax map number, lot size and land use.
- Is the Babylon tax map free to use?
- Yes. Parcel boundaries, tax map numbers, lot sizes, land use and the environmental overlays are public record and free here. Owner names, arrears amounts and scoring require a free account.
- Does this map show Babylon zoning?
- Not yet. Zoning in New York is set town by town, and Babylon does not currently publish a zoning layer we can map. County-wide layers — school and fire districts, wetlands and the Pine Barrens — are shown. Check with the Town for zoning.
- Where does this data come from?
- Parcel boundaries come from the Suffolk County tax parcel GIS layer. Overlays come from Suffolk County GIS, the Town's own GIS and NYSDEC, each credited beneath the map. It is a reference tool, not a legal survey or a regulatory determination.
About this data
ParcelIntel is built and operated by Chokdee Properties LLC, a home builder working in Suffolk County. We assembled this map because we needed it ourselves — to check lot lines, zoning and wetlands before committing to a parcel. Parcel geometry comes directly from the Suffolk County tax parcel layer and attributes from babylon, nys; nothing here is modelled or estimated.
It is a reference tool, not a survey. Boundaries are as digitised by the County and are not a legal determination of title, buildability or regulatory status. For those, consult the Town of Babylon and a licensed surveyor.
